Description
The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) envisions an educational framework that blends India’s ancient intellectual heritage with modern global knowledge. One of its key mandates is to integrate the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into curricula at all levels to cultivate culturally rooted, innovative, and ethical learners. IKS reflects the wisdom accumulated through centuries of exploration in diverse fields—philosophy, mathematics, linguistics, medicine, ecology, and the arts—demonstrating that learning in India has always been holistic and valuedriven.
This book, Indian Knowledge System: Foundations, Heritage, and Contemporary Relevance, has been developed to help students, teachers, and researchers understand these traditions systematically. It presents India’s knowledge heritage not as a relic of the past but as a living tradition relevant to today’s scientific and societal challenges. Each unit explores a distinct dimension of Indian thought—its philosophies, sciences, governance systems, and aesthetic values—while connecting them to contemporary education and innovation.
