Description
Environmental Science has become an extremely important and relevant subject in today’s time. At the global level, issues such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, loss of biodiversity, and pollution have alerted human society to the necessity of maintaining balance with nature. In such a situation, the understanding of environmental science should not remain confined to scientists alone, but must also reach the general public, students, and policymakers. The objective of this book is to introduce students to the fundamental elements of environmental science. The subject matter has been presented in a simple, coherent, and scientific manner so that it proves useful for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The first chapter of the book provides a basic understanding of “Environmental Science.” Thereafter, various aspects of ecosystems, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, and natural resources have been explained in detail. Topics such as energy resources and biodiversity have been placed in the current global context, while the chapters related to pollution and environmental laws make readers aware of both the problems and their solutions. Each chapter integrates definitions, examples, diagrams, and concise information in such a way that students can delve deeper into the subject. An effort has also been made to align the book with academic curricula and make it suitable for competitive examinations.
