Prof. Saumitra Sarkar

Prof. Saumitra Sarkar, M.Com (Accounting and Control), M.Phil, Ph.D., and D.Litt (Commerce), is the Principal of Joypur Panchanan Roy College, Howrah, West Bengal, serving since December 2006. With over 35 years of experience in education and administration, he has previously held various academic and leadership roles, including Lecturer at Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira and Teacher-in-Charge at the same college.

He has been a member of the Executive Council of Netaji Subhas Open University, the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta, and Governing Bodies of several colleges. Prof. Sarkar was also the Chairman of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (2019–2020).

He has received numerous awards, including the “Shiksharatna” Award and the NSS State-Level Award from the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal. An active academic, he has presented papers at various state, national, and international conferences and published in reputed journals and newspapers. His areas of interest include Accounting, Management, and Economics.
