
Chandan Bisht was born on 7 December 1955 in the hilly state of Uttarakhand, India. He belongs to a small village in the Nainital district, near Ranikhet (Kathgodam). His early education was completed in his hometown.
In 1976, he completed his postgraduate studies in Physics from Kumaun University, Nainital. After gaining experience in a few private roles, he qualified through a competitive examination and joined the Central Government Revenue Service in 1980, serving in the Customs Department, Mumbai. He retired in 2015 after 35 years of dedicated service and is currently based in Mumbai.
From a young age, he developed a strong interest in Hindi and English literature. Despite having an academic background in science and a demanding professional career, his passion for literature—particularly Hindi poetry and ghazals—remained an integral part of his life. His writing reflects thoughtful observation, emotional depth, and a lifelong engagement with language and expression.
